Chile: Day 3

Day 3: A very full day. This morning Andrew took us to downtown Santiago via the subway. We are starting to get a feel for the metropolitan area and the culture. It still amazes me at how modern a place can be and at the same time not. Our trip downtown gave us some insight into the history of Chile.

This afternoon we had the pleasure of helping to prepare the food and serve the kids at the MANNA feeding center. What a blessing. At first glance the children looked and behaved like any other kid. However the longer you spent with them the more you realized just how special this feeding center is to them and much they need it. Today was a special day and the kids were fed hot dogs. Children 8 - 12 quickly devoured two hot dogs a piece with all the fixings, which here is tomato, mayo, mustard, ketchup, and usually guacamole however today it was left off due to the cost of the avocados. I have to admit, I had one like this the other day and it was pretty good. The children shower once a week at the church and for many of them that is the only shower they will get. These kids need a good meal and a shower, but most importantly they simply need someone to love them and give them time. We look forward to seeing them at church on Sunday.

This evening we were served a traditional Chilean meal at a couple's house from the church. We sat around the table for a couple hours and Andrew translated some of the conversation for us. There was a lot we didn't get and I sat there wondering what it will be like to go back to the states and sit around a table where it is only English? I also wondered what it would be like to sit around the table and understand all of the conversation. The couples that came were wonderful and all of them are very nice people.

Tomorrow morning we will be driving over to the coast with Andrew and his parents who also live in Chile. We hope the day will be a little relaxing. Tomorrow night Sean is teaching/preaching to the youth at church. Please pray that God will speak through Sean as he has the opportunity to share the gospel. We love you all and thank you for your continued prayer.
